Baffled. Startled. Bemused. Mild distress. Chagrined.
My mug speaks for me. Especially in summer... if you're not sure how I feel about summer, check out my previous post.
I go to bed each night, with dreams of waking to 'real' summer, where I have to pull on a sweatshirt in the morning, in late afternoon after an hour's walk in the sun, I begin to vapor with a gentle beading of perspiration, and by 4 pm it is time to light the fire. Not for romance (at my age, that risks injury), not for mood or ambiance or effect. For warmth.
Alas, it is not to be (thank you Al Gore, for making global warming!). Instead of my druthers, I get heat, and humidity, with some added stillness to the air and an extra dose of scorching.
What to do when we don't get what we want? When the world doesn't shape itself to our designs, or even our preferences?
The wise ones do what humans do best, adapt and accommodate. Practice mindfulness. Embrace what is. Exercise radical acceptance. Be at one with where you find yourself.
I've even created a word for all that. d'Blard. It's officially copyrighted, so you're not allowed to speak it, not even mouth it silently, unless you recognize me as it's creator. And then you must buy 17 books; no, not any books. My books.
d'Blard. This word began it's life as 'Blard'. However, recognizing a lack of cachet, the word evolved itself into 'd'Blard'. French is always classy.
d'Blard. Stands for deep Breathe, Let Go, Accept, Relax, Detach. The skills of embracing life as it is, of being in the moment, of radical acceptance and bringing peace to one's soul.
When we find our life and our world out of sorts with how we desire it, the first step is to begin d'Blarding. I have patients who tell me in times of stress and trouble, they d'Blard like maniacs. Makes me happy. Makes me proud.
So me and my mug are going to d'Blard; we're d'Blarding over the heat. And the humidity. Over my stuck-ness with my current project, a second novel in a series of three, or four (the folks in the story haven't told me yet). I'm d'Blarding over the state of hate, over sad situations and mean people. But mostly, I'm d'Blarding over the heat.
OMG, I think it's helping!
Oh, wait--that's me planning a trip to some cool land, like San Francisco. Where it's chilly in the morning, has pleasant warmness in the afternoon, and returns to chilly in the evening. I'll accept the absence of snow.
d'Blard...may it work for you. Me? I'm d'Blarding no snow in San Fran while I visit.
Everyone has their own method of coping. May you cope well.
