A lot of friends have asked how the Sandman series got started. Part of the story can be found in Michelle Holllenhead's article in the Farragut Press (the link to which I'll add later, when I've developed tech skills. Yes, I am woefully behind the times).
Basically, it is one of my best friend's fault. Seven years ago, Mary Ann Taylor suggested our families make gifts for Christmas exchange. Why? Because she, her husband Gary and my wife Sue are very crafty, artistic and creative. Me? Not so. At the suggestion, I said "Well, shoot!" Or something similar. And I had a thought: since I'm not crafty, maybe I'll write a small story instead.
I'd had the thought of a Sandman story in my mind for years, so I built Rescue the Night around that basic notion. And, as a tribute to our children, I shaped the characters Thompson, Lily and Carly on our two family's daughters.
It was a ton of fun! At least, for me....the writing, the creating, the shaping and sharpening of the story. The result was Book 1. Unbeknownst to me, my psyche decided there would be four more years of Christmas presents, four more books in the series.
So, that's how it all started. At least, that's the beginning of the story. I'll share more another day.
Hope everyone is having a splendid and sparkling season!
